Janell Geason began her career as a makeup artist when she was four years old. She has a picture of herself at that age holding her favorite doll, close inspection reveals that she’d applied lipstick to her doll's mouth and penciled in the brows. Janell went on to make over all of her dolls – including Barbie – along with cousins, sisters, brothers and anyone else who would sit for her. She earned her official credentials as a young adult in 1986 at the Horst Cosmetology School in Minneapolis.
At the age of 20, she left the U.S. to live in London and Italy where she worked as a hairdresser and makeup artist. Upon her return to Minnesota, Janell reconnected with the Aveda network as Makeup Director at Juut SalonSpa. She has been an Aveda Purefessional and Guest Artist for several years and was appointed Global Makeup Artist in June 2010. "I love working for Aveda because I can create beautiful faces while doing something good for the planet," says Janell. "Aveda approaches beauty with total wellness in mind, using plant-derived ingredients that are good for both consumers and for the earth."
Janell was named Makeup Artist of the Year in 2008 and 2009 at the North American Hairstyling Awards, and regularly contributes to the creation of seasonal trend collections. Her work can be seen in publications such as Elle and Lucky magazines. Her celebrity client list includes America Ferrera, Cheryl Tiegs, Jerry Seinfeld and Kevin Costner.
